Where is Gaia Riverlodge located?

Gaia Riverlodge is perched atop the magnificent Five-Sisters Waterfalls in Belize’s renowned and remote Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve. The resort is about an hour’s drive from one of Belize’s more popular places, San Ignacio, but feels worlds away!

Gaia Riverlodge’s location is the perfect launching off point to discover Belize’s magical Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve, which is in the highlands of western Belize’s southern region. It is made up of 300,000 acres of protected pine forests where you can find natural gems such as Thousand Foot Falls, the largest fall in Belize and the Central American region, and the cave Rio Frio, a 1/4-mile tunnel, all within a short drive of Gaia.

The Food at Gaia Riverlodge:

During our time at Gaia Riverlodge we experienced, by far, some of the best meals of our entire Belize honeymoon trip at this romantic place in a tropical paradise.

The food here is definitely considered ‘fine dining and is absolutely exquisite. And talk about that panoramic VIEW from the restaurant! It immediately took my breath away. It’s the perfect location for a romantic dinner at this gorgeous honeymoon destination to enjoy true culinary experiences.

Five Sisters Restaurant, the open-air farm-to-table restaurant, and cocktail lounge at Gaia Riverlodge provides a perfect opportunity for some quiet time away from the world while providing spectacular views of the Belizean rainforest.

The full-service restaurant serves exceptional Belizean and international cuisine all day, fusing native tropical fruits, vegetables, and spices with flavors from around the world.

Sam, Gaia’s Mayan farmer in charge of the organic garden, picks fresh produce every day. The remainder of their products are sourced from a network of nearby farmers and gardeners so that Gaia can provide the greatest local produce while adhering to the sustainability ethos that they take pride in.

And man – can their chef cook! Every single meal and cocktail we had here was delicious. The staff can also set up a romantic, private candlelit dinner for you, as well, for the perfect meal of your romantic honeymoon.

Activities at Gaia Riverlodge:

For a secluded river lodge, there is actually a TON you can do at Gaia without even leaving the resort during your romantic escape! Here are some options of ways to spend your day and outdoor activities you can partake in around the resort:

Take an Early Morning Jungle Walk

Early birds are invited to join a guided nature walk to observe the tropical rainforest at one of its most vibrant times of day when the forest comes to life at the break of dawn! You’ll find a wide variety of biodiversity at Gaia. One of the nationally-qualified guides for Gaia will lead you on a nature hike with gorgeous jungle views.

Nocturnal Rainforest Walk

After supper, take a guided stroll into a tropical wide leaf forest to hear the sounds of the nighttime wildlife. A wide diversity of nocturnal creatures and birds can be seen in the nearby woodland. As the lights are turned off, your senses will be heightened to get a better understanding of this natural habitat. Such a memorable experience!

Go Birdwatching

Observe local and migrant birds as they start their active day soon after daybreak. This region is home to numerous species with a variety of hues and cries: Tanagers, Warblers, Fly Catchers, Orioles, Parrots, Toucans, and different raptors are just some of the birds you could see.

Tour the On-Site Organic Garden

Join Samuel, Gaia’s experienced Mayan organic farmer in his area of expertise! See how Gaia’s fruits and veggies are grown organically and discover his green strategy for navigating the difficulties of running a garden in this setting—all of which are based on classic Mayan farming and gardening techniques. You may even feel motivated to grow something at home!

Pamper Yourself with a Spa Treatment

All guests to Gaia should visit the Gaia Spa, which is housed in a charming thatched cabana in the middle of the rainforest. All of their spa ingredients are organic, derived from nature in Belize, Guatemala, and Mexico, and processed locally. The best of Belizean customs are incorporated into their procedures and techniques, from banana and papaya facials to deep-tissue massages. Pamper yourself and relax after a day of nature exploration!

Fancy a Riverside Hot Tub for your Belize Honeymoon?

The room category we stayed in at Gaia Riverlodge during our Belize honeymoon was incredibly dreamy! And the view from the riverside hot tub on the private deck at this luxury resort was absolutely gorgeous.

This is my review of Gaia’s Riverside Villa room category, which I could not recommend for your own memorable trip to Belize if you’re looking for complete privacy with your new spouse!

Gaia Riverlodge - Belize Honeymoon Resort

The Riverside Villa is beautiful, spacious, and unique, offering a very original “Gaia” experience. The villa, which is one of their most secluded accommodation types, is situated along the river. Staying will make you feel as though you’re alone, just the two of you, in a tropical forest.

The villa features a dull gourmet kitchen, a comfy living room, and an outside patio with a table, chairs, hot tub, and a river view. There is a separate building for your bedroom and another bathroom.

The spacious open terrace is the ideal place to connect with mother nature.

The villa really comes equipped with everything you could possibly need for your perfect romantic getaway!

Even though this villa is located fairly far away from the main lodge is a tranquil and secluded spot on the river, if you don’t feel like leaving your room, you can order your food and drinks right to your villa! And trust me, you’ll be hard-pressed to leave – the villa is so stunning.

There is only one Riverside Villa at Gaia Riverlodge, so make sure it book it well in advance so you don’t miss you! Staying here is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

There are other gorgeous accommodation options and boutique rooms available at Gaia Riverlodge too – check them all out below!

Our Review of Gaia Riverlodge as a Belize Honeymoon Resort

What an absolutely stunning and relaxing resort! Mitch and I loved our time at Gaia Riverlodge. The views from Gaia are incredible, the private waterfall and natural swimming pool are beautiful and fun to play in, and the food and drinks at Gaia are absolutely delicious. Plus, the entire area of Mountain Pine Forest Reserve is incredible. We went for a drive and checked out a few waterfalls and caves nearby (the staff at Gaia can point you in the right direction!) And the staff at Gaia are very, very lovely, and so helpful.

This is a resort that is so worthy of its “Small Luxury Resorts of the World” rating – it’s the perfect place for a honeymoon in Belize, or just an anytime getaway to this beautiful country. We will indeed be back!

And we can’t wait to check out the sister property, Matachica Resort in beautiful San Pedro, Belize along the Caribbean Coast. We, unfortunately, didn’t have time to visit Matachica this trip, but you could book the two of these together for your honeymoon to spend it half in the jungle, and half on the beach with the Caribbean Sea!
